A Slow, Golden Summer Auburn Engagement Session at Flaming Geyser State Park

Some sessions stay tucked in the corners of your memory long after the shutter clicks fade, and Marayah and Evan’s Summer Auburn Engagement Session at Flaming Geyser State Park is one of those days for me. Maybe it was the warm air, the soft trails, or the fact that these two are effortlessly themselves in a way that makes my little documentary photographer heart happy. Whatever magic was drifting through the trees that afternoon, it wrapped itself around all of us and followed us down every trail, every quiet bend, and every sunlit clearing.

If you’ve been hanging around here for a while, you already know that my couples tend to be outdoorsy, kind, down-to-earth people who don’t mind a little dirt on their hiking boots. Marayah and Evan fit that to a tee. They showed up ready to wander, laugh, and trust me completely, which is basically the trifecta for a perfect session. As your resident Enumclaw Wedding Photographer, I’ve spent plenty of time exploring the corners of the Pacific Northwest, and Flaming Geyser is one of those places that surprises you every time you return. Summer light hits it differently, and this day was no exception.

Wandering the Trails Like Old Friends

We began on the river trail, one of my favorite pockets of the park because the tall trees create a canopy that softens everything underneath. It was one of those classic PNW summer days, warm enough to feel dreamy, but not so hot that you’re melting before you even find your rhythm. The three of us set off down the path, and it didn’t take long before Marayah and Evan were laughing in that private, comfortable way couples do when they completely forget a camera exists.

The lush green swallowed us up in the dreamiest way, and you could hear the river in the distance. Every few steps there was something new to take in. The way Marayah’s hair caught the sunlight. The way Evan reached for her hand without thinking. The easy laughter that floated between them.

At one point, we stumbled on a tiny robin’s egg shell resting on the ground. Perfectly blue and so small it felt like a treasure. Marayah scooped it up and held it delicately, and the moment felt so sweet and unexpected. There’s something about noticing the little things on a session like this. It slows everything down, makes the rest of the world feel quieter, and helps couples settle into the rhythm of simply being together.

That’s the heart of what I love most about being an Enumclaw Wedding Photographer. People think it’s about cameras and posing, but really, it’s about helping couples experience their day in a way that feels honest. When they look back at their photos, the memories feel like memories, not performances.

Daisies, Hidden Fields, and the Kind of Love You Can Feel

Somewhere near the midway point of our wandering through their Auburn Engagement, Evan suddenly paused, told us to hold on, and darted off into the brush. I’ve learned to trust the instincts of outdoorsy people. If they wander off without warning, something adorable or hilarious is usually about to happen.

He reappeared moments later with a single yellow daisy clutched in his hand. He held it out to Marayah with the biggest grin, and she just lit up. It was such a soft, tender moment, the kind that would have slipped by unnoticed if we hadn’t been taking the day slowly and letting their natural personalities guide the session.

I think that’s what makes an Auburn Engagement Session so unique. The sun lingers long enough to give us time to explore. The colors feel rich. The air carries a warmth that encourages people to slow down. You can see it in their faces. You can hear it in their laughter. There’s no rush, no pressure, no stiff posing. Just connection.

After the daisy moment, we continued down a narrow trail that opened into a field of yellow flowers. It looked like it had been plucked straight out of a fairytale. The flowers brushed against our legs as we walked, and the sunlight stretched across the meadow in soft golden ribbons. Marayah and Evan moved through it with such ease, whispering to each other, sharing little jokes, and occasionally glancing my way to make sure they were letting me work my documentary magic.

That golden meadow was one of my favorite parts of the day. Not just for the photos, although trust me, the photos are stunning, but because it gave them space to settle into a rhythm that felt true to their relationship. You could see how much they adore each other in the quiet ways they interact. The way Evan placed a hand on her back as they stepped over branches. The way Marayah’s smile changed every time she looked at him. As an Enumclaw Wedding Photographer, these are the moments I live for. The unscripted ones. The ones that tell the real story.

We lingered there until the lighting was just right, then meandered back toward the river for the final stretch of the session.

Bare Feet, Cool Water, and the Perfect Ending

If you’ve never stepped into river water at the end of a warm summer day, let me tell you, you’re missing out. It’s like nature’s version of a cold plunge, but in a way that makes you laugh instead of cry.

We reached the water’s edge and the air felt even softer there. The river moved slowly and the light danced on the surface like little flecks of silver. Marayah and Evan kicked off their shoes and stepped in together, holding hands, giggling at the chill, and leaning into each other as the current wrapped around their ankles.

It was the perfect end to their Auburn Engagement Session. There’s something symbolic about ending a session in a river. It feels cleansing and peaceful. Like a nod to the fact that marriage is about diving in together and letting the current carry you side by side.

They waded, carefully trying not to splash, and wrapped their arms around each other as the sun slipped behind the tree line. The whole scene felt like a quiet moment out of a movie. Soft, romantic, and real in a way you simply cannot fake.

Documentary photography thrives in spaces like this. When couples forget about the camera and let themselves be fully present. Being an Enumclaw Wedding Photographer means I get to witness stories like this unfold in some of the most stunning corners of the Pacific Northwest, and honestly, I’ll never get tired of it.

After the river, we gathered their things, chatted about their wedding plans, and made our way back to the trailhead. It felt less like walking back with clients and more like saying goodbye to friends you adore. The good kind of goodbye, where you already know the next time you see them will be even more magical.
