Elliott and Cameron’s Shangri-la on the Green wedding didn’t follow typical trends or Pinterest-perfect staging. Instead, it felt like a world grown from their own adventures together. It was personal, heartfelt, and full of natural beauty.
The centerpieces were a collection of antlers from their real hunting excursions. Elliott created beautiful handcrafted boutonnieres from emptied shotgun shells. The tables were lined with live moss that looked like it had been pulled straight from the forest floor minutes before guests arrived. Tiny faux mushrooms were scattered between candles resting on wood slices brought from her parents’ home. Everywhere you looked, there was intention and meaning. Nothing about the design felt mass produced. It looked like the earth itself decided to show up and celebrate.
Their wedding party elevated the entire atmosphere. Bridesmaids wore Renaissance-inspired gowns in shades of emerald and rust. They glided through the clearing like forest royalty. The flower girl completed the theme with her own tiny fairy wings, which was as adorable as it sounds.
Even the drinks matched the vibe. Guests enjoyed small-batch craft beers and wines made from family recipes. The whole event felt like a celebration of heritage, creativity, and a deep love for the outdoors. It was earthy, ethereal, and unmistakably them.
Heartfelt Moments Surrounded by Nature
Documentary wedding photography shines brightest when the world around the couple becomes part of the story. Elliott’s world is full of small wonders, and they followed her throughout the day like trusted companions. Her Shangri-la on the Green wedding proved to be full of that magical perfection.
During detail shots, a little beetle wandered up and inspected the rings, as if making sure everything looked perfect. Later, while Elliott got ready, caterpillars explored her bouquet and the poles of the getting ready tent. Instead of brushing them away, she welcomed them with a smile. It showed a side of her that was so genuine, so connected to nature, and so at peace.
One of the most emotional moments came during her first look with her dad. She gifted him a tie printed with his favorite photo of the two of them. His reaction was pure love and pride, and the kind of moment he’ll carry with him long after the wedding day.
Next came the first look with Cameron. We placed him near the honeymoon tent that Elliott’s family had put together for the couple to enjoy after the afterparty. Elliott made her way through the trees, and when he turned around, the world softened. They fell into each other with the kind of ease that comes from being best friends. That moment felt sacred, like time paused just for them.
Later, they exchanged private vows in the forest. We stayed back to respect their space, photographing from a distance while they shared promises meant only for each other. Even far away, you could feel their connection. Their expressions, their body language, the gentle way they leaned in. It was all beautifully sincere.
Afterward, we slipped down to the creek for quiet riverside portraits. This is almost always one of my favorite Shangri-La on the Green wedding spots. Surrounded by mossy stones and soft running water, they snuggled in together, laughing and chatting like the world belonged to them alone. These photos ended up being some of my favorites, because they captured who they are without any posing or prompting.
An Energetic Reception and a Fairy Tale Farewell
The reception kicked off with excitement as guests lined up for a whole roasted pig. Sharing a meal like that has a way of instantly bringing people together, and the energy never slowed down. The dance floor stayed packed. Kids ran around with dessert-sticky hands. Grandparents showed off moves that had everyone cheering. Friends embraced like family. Everywhere we looked, people were laughing, hugging, and celebrating these two.
And then it was time for their sendoff. Instead of bubbles or sparklers, guests waved fairy wands that shimmered under the night sky. It was whimsical, charming, and completely perfect for the day they created. Elliott and Cameron didn’t simply walk through the sendoff tunnel. They danced their way through it, surrounded by floating sparkles and cheers. It felt like watching the final scene of a fairy tale, where the heroes head off into their next adventure. It was impossible not to smile.
