Wayne + Miranda | Gold Creek Pond Engagement
Iโm looking for someone to share in an adventureโฆ

Miranda + Wayne’s Gold Creek Pond Engagement
Thereโs something magical about a Gold Creek Pond Engagement. Maybe itโs the way the water reflects the surrounding peaks like a watercolor painting. Or maybe itโs how the light filters through the pines just perfectly at sunset. But on this crisp November day, it wasnโt just nature doing its thingโit was Miranda and Wayne bringing their own glow to this adventure engagement session.
Now, I know โadventure sessionโ gets tossed around a lot in the wedding world, but this? This was legit. They trekked over a mile with adorable props (peep those โhubby & wifeyโ mugsโyes, I also own them, and yes, Iโm a sucker for matchy things), perfectly coordinated outfits, and the kind of enthusiasm that makes you forget your toes are frozen. Welcome to Pacific Northwest photography, where we hike, we laugh, and we maybe lose feeling in our fingers for the sake of love and killer backdrops.
Middle School SweetheartsโWith a Plot Twist
Not everyone gets to say they married their junior high sweetheart. Not everyone wants to, letโs be honest. But for Miranda and Wayne, their love story reads like a Nicholas Sparks novel with better snacks and more clamming.
They dated way back in their school daysโcue the โawwsโโbut life had its own plans. They went their separate ways, lived their chapters, and somehow, despite time and distance, found their way back to each other. When Wayne was working a job down in California, their reconnection turned into a long-distance relationship that just worked. Fast forward to July, and they were engagedโbecause real love, like a good creamy clam chowder, just gets better with time. (IYKYK. And yes, Iโm still waiting for that recipe, Wayne.)
Their upcoming Brookstom Creek wedding had us all buzzing with excitement, but this Gold Creek Pond engagement session? This was the real moment their story came alive on camera.
Sharing stories at their Gold Creek Pond Engagement
As we made our way around Gold Creek Pond (aka hiker-friendly heaven with that straight-out-of-a-fairytale vibe), we swapped storiesโabout family, about food, about the weird places creativity takes you when youโre a photographer married to a machinist with a love of horror movies.
Miranda and Wayne shared tales of their three-year-old daughter, and I shared a few gems from life with four kids and a husband who thinks a spooky basement studio setup is a great idea (heโs not wrong… sometimes).
What I loved most was how easy they were together. The way Wayne looked at Miranda when she wasnโt watching. The way Miranda instinctively adjusted his coat when the wind picked up. These moments might not seem like much, but theyโre the heartbeats of real relationships. Thatโs what we chase as documentary photographersโnot just the Pinterest-perfect pose, but the fleeting second where two people forget thereโs a camera at all.
Love at First Bite
Hereโs the thingโI love a good romantic whisper photo. You know the one: I ask one partner to lean in and tell the other something sweet, and we get this beautiful, emotional shot that melts Instagram feeds everywhere. So, I set the scene. I asked Wayne to whisper to Miranda about the moment he realized he loved her.
I was ready for the misty-eyed magic.
What I got? Uncontrollable laughter.
Turns out theyโd just talked about this, and it all came down to a home-cooked meal back in high school. Miranda and her mom made dinner, Wayne took one bite, andโbamโit was over. She had his heart.
So yes, it was love at first bite. And honestly? Thatโs way better than any staged tear-jerker moment. Thatโs real. Thatโs them.
Building a LegacyโOne Session at a Time
One of the things that makes this job feel more like a calling than a career is getting to walk alongside couples after the wedding. For Miranda and Wayne, our relationship didnโt end at โI do.โ Theyโve come back to us year after year for family sessions, letting us document their growing love and familyโsnuggles with their daughter, more laughter, more memories.
And that? Thatโs why we do this.
Because photography isnโt just about the one big day. Itโs about freezing the tiny, fleeting seasons of life that go by too fast. Itโs about creating heirlooms your kids will look back on and say, โWow, Mom and Dad were kinda cute.โ Itโs about legacy.
And couples like Miranda and Wayne remind us that legacy doesnโt start when you walk down the aisle. It starts with dinner in high school. With a long-distance phone call. With a hike for their Gold Creek Pond Engagement on a cold November day, laughing about clam chowder and sipping coffee out of matching mugs.
