5 things I’ll say at your engagement session

During your engagement session planning, you’ll often hear me say “Trust me, I can out-awkward taco you” though you may not believe it. I’m super awkward in front of the camera (which is why I’m behind it) so I completely understand when you say your fiance is not a “picture person” and really doesn’t want photos. Over the past 8+ years, I’ve found a few ways to get you to loosen up that don’t just include terrible dad jokes.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side. <- Bad dad joke.

While the above chicken joke might actually come up during your session (who doesn’t love a dumb chicken joke?) it’s not one of the most common things you’re bound to hear me say. There are definitely a few things I almost always repeat.

“If it bends, bend it”

No one wants to haul your passed out fiance off the floor, so DON’T lock those knees! We’re also not Barbie dolls, and stiff arms held directly at your sides aren’t flattering on anyone. Bend those knees and elbows ladies!

“No one has died… yet”

I can promise you, no one has ever died from getting their photo taken by me. I do my best to make your experience as painless as possible (Guys, I’m talking to you!). You CAN smile. You CAN have a good time. And you CAN keep from looking like I just ran over your cat. I promise it won’t kill you.

“Kiss her like you mean it”

Nothing is worse than a stiff kiss during an engagement session. I want you to really get down into that kiss there. Give her a smooch that will knock her off her feet. By all means, add a little tongue if it suits you, but don’t drool on her. That’s gross.

“Use your sexy voice”

This one is my absolute favorite line to use during an engagement session. Couples usually erupt into laughter as soon as the words leave my mouth. Trust me, NO ONE can say “Tacos” in a sexy voice. I love seeing the guys try and the smiles that show up are always genuine. This one makes for the best photos.

“Awkward prom pose”

Remember those 1980/1990 prom poses? Yep, that is EXACTLY what I want you to do. Cozy on in there, hands on her waist, but DON’T put your hands on her stomach. It makes EVERY woman look pregnant when you do that. Just don’t.
