Offbeat Pacific Avenue Engagement Session

The past year in my Tacoma studio has allowed me to sample the local flair on Pacific Avenue. When Cori asked to do something “different” for their engagement session, I was totally game for the idea. After some chatting, Cori and I settled on a three part adventure: The Forum, Pacific Avenue, and Dorky’s. She mentioned to me that they weren’t “picture people” and hoped for a more candid feel during their Pacific Avenue engagement session. I take a very photojournalistic approach, so this was right up my alley and I was excited from the get-go!

That is… until I received an email from Cori full of “ideas” for her Pacific Avenue engagement photos. Super obscure photos, with watermelons, photoshopped flying saucers and dragons. Unsure if she was joking, I calmly replied that we would definitely need at least a few watermelons to work out those shots. I was blessed to learn that Cori has a similar, quirky sense of humor to mine. (I will say though, I was a bit disappointed that there would be no photoshopping watermelons). Meeting her in person at the Brookstom Creek Open House, solidified the fact that her wedding day was going to be amazing.

Cori & Stephen have a playful couple’s personality that really took me by surprise.

We met upstairs in my Tacoma studio, before adventuring down to the Forum. Cori and Stephen calmed their nerves with a drink, and began to let their playful personalities shine through. After a quick drink, we took to the streets. Between Dorky’s and an empty rental space, there’s a small parking lot I love, that fits about eight cars. It has the most beautiful brick archways in Tacoma, and we chose that background for their more formal engagement shots. They had a blast giggling at some of the poses Cori came across while searching for those engagement shots she loved. Spending only a few minutes in the parking lot allowed us to move onto the fun part… Dorky’s.

It may only have taken 20 minutes in Dorky’s but these two proved they make a great team on Jurassic Park. I doubt I’ve seen anyone get that far in the game before (I know I haven’t). A bit of pinball and a little air hockey rounded out their offbeat Pacific Avenue Engagement session. I look forward to their August Brookstom Creek Wedding!

The Forum Engagement Session
We started at the Forum, a swanky bar on Pacific Avenue. Cori & Stephen calmed their nerves with a quick drink before we headed onto part two of our journey.

Pacific Avenue Engagement
The Pacific Avenue portion of our adventure, took us to a parking lot with beautiful brick arches. Cori & Stephen goofed around and showed off how much they were made for each other.

Dorky's Engagement SessionCue the Final Fantasy music. Our last destination was Dorky’s, a favorite date night locale. These two skilled video game players used their teamwork to navigate the jungle of Jurassic Park, then challenged each other to a game of Air Hockey.

Stay tuned for the full overview of their 3 part engagement session!
