Deception Pass Adventure | PhotoLush 2019

An Adventure Session lead by Dan Manning Photography

Adventure Sessions are one of those things I dream about constantly. You’d better believe my excitement when I found out Dan was leading a breakout at Deception Pass. Even at 17 weeks pregnant, I knew I had to snag a spot in this Deception Pass adventure session.

We were joined by Erin and Chase, who’d done an engagement session with Dan prior to this session. I anticipated a hard hike, so you can imagine my shock when Erin showed up in wedge heels. The hike wasn’t hard, but trying to photograph around almost 20 other photographers is a bit of a nightmare. Haha. I have plans to go back to this area in the next few months and do some more exploring.

It was so worth it. The backgrounds, lighting and everything was pure perfection. A few short uphill sections gave way to a beautiful beach location. From there we continued on through tree lined paths to incredible rock formations that gave the feeling of being on the edge of the world.

The edge of the world has nothing on Deception Pass

When we started, the fog around Deception Pass was incredibly thick, giving us beautifully even lighting. The longer we hiked, the sun started to peek through the fog. By the time we left, it was nice and sunny, though we’d left the group and models to go find food. Downside of being pregnant… eating on a schedule.

The parts I loved most were learning to tie in the storytelling aspect of an adventure session. Doing many sessions in studio and at the same location over and over, sometimes takes away from the rest of the story. I snagged a few ideas for new locations and remembered why I love doing engagements.

Since this session, I’ve found a short list of places I want to photograph couples. If you’re ready for an adventure session, head over to my contact me page and let’s get planning!
